Chess Club

If you've been at Wakefield on Friday afternoons, you might have had the opportunity to observe WCDS students of varied ages concentrating intently over chess boards. Mr. Alexander Popkin, chess coach, circulates among them, offering lessons and tips to students as they absorb the subtleties of the game.

Wakefield's newest club shows lots of promise. Many of the members participated in their first team tournament in November and returned with a third place trophy. The team competed again in February. Bernie Cieplak won a fifth place trophy, in that competition, for his individual play.
